Our Story
We are the guys- ‘one he and the other he’- from Nepal. We are freelancers – designer & developer. We made our passports, got IELTS score and quit our jobs and started dreaming of life aboard. At that mean time and surprisingly on the same day ‘one he’, went to Ghaighat and the ‘other he’ went to Damak; both of them called by their parents for some family duties and responsibilities to undertake.
It so happened that it almost took about a month and a half for ‘one he’ and a winter for the ‘other he’ to come back to a normal life in ‘karmathalo’ Kathmandu.
Old Nepal was a New Nepal (!?!), Sanghiya Ganatantrik Loktantra Nepal, by the way till now we are not clean and clear with ourselves what that really stands for…
The word ‘New Nepal’ was getting popular and everyone was using it and added with whatever it suited.
And, while one he & other he used to drive through the roads of Kathmandu and whenever they used to see the chaos, jams, garbages, petrol queues, strikes for anything – with whatever reasons, irresponsibilities and irregularities, unaccountability towards one duty, etc we started pointing to those frustrating situations and started saying Welcome to New Nepal. This is how the name was coined. Ultimately, one day the domain, welcomtonewnepal.com, was registered and ‘life abroad’ dreams were halted.
Then we started clicking photographs from different parts of valley with our Samsung S760 (7.2 mega pixel), a horrible household camera. Eventually one day it broke down, since that day we don’t have camera but no worry, we are planning to get one – probably a DSLR. Along with it, we started designing the site with international standard concepts and used Ruby on Rails as it’s framework. As design standards and Ruby on Rails were new to us, we were learning by doing. It so happened that after 11 months of hard work, patience and risks (thanks to load shedding), we came with this site with these features. We will be adding more ‘Foto-Gossips’ and will include natural aspects of Nepal too, under ‘Naturally Nepal’ section. We love Nepal and want to share with all, as it stands. What we promise is, we will be continuously developing and enriching this site.
We passionately run this site with a dream to create a community, starting here with the pictures that we have taken after the declaration of “Republic Nepal.” We bring here the way Nepal is, the way that was in the past; and the way that is still following us. Some of them, which we want to get rid of, and some – which we want to keep and treasure. So, let us come together, hand in hand and reshape Nepal – our way – no matter it take years.
By profession we are web designer and developer. This is a social freelance project and a campaign for better Nepal. Anyone can participate in this site, contributing their thoughts, opinions, articles and photographs (any part of Nepal) that shows how Nepal is and the possible measures to make it a better place to live.
We further request Nepalese staying abroad to share us with, why you left Nepal and the difference of your experience in – living in Nepal and abroad, and as well, we request to the tourists who have visited Nepal to – share your experience in Nepal, under “Share Your Experience,” section.
Feel free to feel, for sake of better Nepal, that is how we keep loving and sharing Nepal. Let us all, create a community to communicate effectively on the web, where we can talk no matter where we are, about the things that is holding Nepal back in this ultra technical global village, and the changes we need in Nepal.
Let us discuss and speak about the topics on where we need changes and collect the stories of our Nepal and Nepalese through the pictures and moments that we see and face in our daily life and probably wanting and dreaming for the change, that we are in need of. We hope, we all believe in changes brings development.
We are not related to any political parties nor any student wings. The only thing is we are Nepali and we do love Nepal. But, we hope that – let politics, religions and castes not divide us and let it not divide our country. Let us not be selfish and break our bond of affection and brotherhood.
Either we may be a top government officer or a sweeper, either a businessman or a peon, or simple ordinary Nepali, let everyone of us be more accountable in what we do, “Let us reshape ourselves where we need to and let us be the generation, to reshape our country – the generation that makes Nepal a better place to live.”
Let’s not turn back and walk alone, instead stay together and fight the battles to build more hopeful Nepal. The battles against ignorance and intolerance, accountability and irresponsibilities, selfishness and corruption, and etc. That’s the journey we’re on today, a journey in search of more hopeful Nepal. Let’s blog and fight – without bullets and stones and without burning tyres – for more hopeful Nepal on our way, no matter it take years. Let’s keep loving and sharing Nepal.
We are dedicating this site in a hope to create the social awareness for the cause of change. For the changes, that we want to see in New Nepal.
We also request, if anyone can donate us please help us. Your donation will be used for the right expenses to keep this site running and creating a dedicated team to update this site regularly.
We once used to say, “Never Ending Peace And Love” as an acronym for Nepal. Hope it comes true.
Thanks,
WNN Team.
